Despite the seemingly limitless websites on photography BOOKS are still a valuable form of information. Every year new ones are appearing on the shelves of bookstores and libraries. Often it is just more pleasing to browse a book, sitting in an armchair, listening to nice music and drinking a cup of coffee or tea. So, here is a selection:
• Ang, Tom. 2004. Guide to Digital Photography. Keep It Simple Series. Dorling Kindersley Ltd. London & New York. 238p. $20. Good intoduction in simple language on equipment and how it works, picture making including composition, controls, lighting; using a flatbed scanner; image editing in Photoshop.
• Anon, Ellen and Grey, Tim 2007. Photoshop CS3 for Nature Photographers: A Workshop in a Book. Master photographer Ellen Anon and digital-imaging expert Tim Grey show you how to capture the beauty of nature by shooting the best possible photos from the start—and then getting the most out of your images at your desktop.
• Busch, D.D. 2005. Digital Photography for Dummies. All in one Desk Reference. Wiley Publishing Inc. 738p. $30 A good, comprehensive reference in simple language on all aspects of digital photography: Equipment, Taking pictures, Editing in Photoshop, Printing and Sharing Digital Images etc.
• Fraser, B. and Blatner, D. 2006. Real World Adobe Photoshop CS2. Industrial Strength Production Techniques. Peachpit Press. 957p $35 Advanced techniques of Photoshop CS2 and good explanations
• Freeman, Michael, 2007. The Photographer's Eye. Composition and Design for Better Digital Photos. Focal Press. 192 p. This is a detailed analysis of the elements of a picture.
• Grill, Tom and Scanlon, Mark 1990. Photographic Composition. Guidelines for Total Image Control through Effective Design. Amphoto, New York 144p.
• Kelby, Scott. 2006 - 2009. The Digital Photography Book ,Vols 1 -3. Peachpit Press. about 220 pages each. This is like a 3 part course on equipment, accessories, lighting, tips and tricks for shooting in many different situations, composition etc. The language is conversational, not too technical and well explanatory.
•Mountain Trail Photo Team; Richard Bernaby, ,Ian Plant, Jerry Greer, Joseph Rossbach, Guy Tal, Nye Simmons, Jim Clark and Mark Adamus. 2009. The Ultimate Guide to Digital Nature Photography. Mountain Trail Press 192 p. This book treats many aspects of nature photography including chapters on equipment, composition special effets, digital workflow, a photography calendar and scene tutorials.
• Milburn, Ken. 2004. Digital Photography. Expert Techniques. O'Reilly. Sebastopol, CA, 467p. $45. Professional Tips & Workflow Strategies for using Photoshop to enhance your digital photography skills.• Peterson, Bryan 2003. Learning to see creatively . Design, Color & Composition in Photography. • Peterson, Bryan 1988. Learning to see creatively. How to compose great photographs. Amphoto, New York 143p.
• Story, D. 2003. Digital Photography Pocket Guide. 2nd Ed., O'Reilly. Sebastopol, CA, 113p $15. Simple Introduction to digital cameras and tips for making good photos.
